What is a curly hair stylist?

A stylist that chooses to specialize in one aspect of hair styling to become an expert or who is an expert in that category. In my case, I am a natural curly hair stylist. I work to cut natural curly textures and I style them in their natural curly state. I do not offer services to manipulate texture, I can refer you to another stylists that offers those types of services. All hair that I work with is meant to reach a goal of healthy natural curly hair. If you do not like to wear your hair naturally curly as it is in a wash and go style, it’s best not to book a haircut with me because I work in the natural state of the hair. If you still wish to get a trim you may do so, but a natural curly cut (this consists of shaping in the natural state!) will not be suitable for you.

Valuables at your appointment*

PLEASE DO NOT wear anything valuable to your appointment. We are not responsible for the loss or damage of any valuables including, but not limited to; eyeglasses, jewelry, bags, cell phones, clothing etc. Please understand that anything dangling on the body or near your hair will possibly be tugged (for example, a comb/brush near the ears with piercings) even with the utmost care. We are not responsible for jewelry that may be lost or damaged. We try to keep everything as clean as possible, but a hair salon that offers color services means color will be anywhere and may stain articles of clothing or bags. Please do not bring anything valuable to your appointment.

How do I know if this is right for me?

An appointment with me is not for you if…

You don’t love your hair.

You don’t want to invest in the health of your hair.

You cannot commit to maintaining the health of your hair.

You want to change your hair texture/pattern.

You are not diligent about booking your own future appointments.

I do want to emphasize that I cannot change your hair texture, but I can help you with how to style it to make it look its best. This may be different than what you expect, but I cannot change how YOU FEEL about your hair. That is something that has to be done by you and only you, especially in the natural world. A lot of embracing oneself is mental work and confidence in yourself, and visiting me may or may not change that! I only say this because some people tend to think that I will change their hair and that is not what the experience is about.

You need to be willing to maintain and have patience with your hair, ESPECIALLY if you are transitioning or are reaching a goal. An appointment with me is not always a one day transformation. It takes work and consistency to see results!

I will tell you what can and cannot be done for your hair. There are certain boundaries that cannot be crossed in order to receive a “good” haircut. That is the fine line between your worst experience and your best experience.

How can I contact you?

If you have made an appointment, you can contact me by texting the number provided in your confirmations via email (602-753-5913). THIS IS A TEXTING NUMBER ONLY, IT DOES NOT RECEIVE CALLS. If you are having a hard time finding those confirmations or have not made an appointment and have other questions please email me at info@curlyhairbyeden.com Or visit this contact form here.

Something is off about my haircut, what should I do?

Tell us within 3 days of your appointment to have us clean up whatever the issue may be. We do not offer refunds. We will accommodate you to stop by within a week or two of your appointment. After 3-14 days, you are considered a full service or express priced haircut. Please note that when we correct the issue, we will not be able to provide a full wash and style.

How often should I book my haircut?

I like to emphasize that SHAPE is what matters for all hair types. How your shape grows out depends on your haircut style and your hair type. Looser hair textures and finer or low density hair will likely fall out of shape faster than tight curly, high density or longer hair types. Come back when your shape feels like it’s not doing it’s job anymore. I definitely recommend a full shape at least once or twice a year. As for a healthy growth, I recommend haircuts every 2-4 months. This is important for maintenance and keeping those dead ends from growing up the hair shaft. If you like having shorter hair then your maintenance will be higher. I see some clients every 6-8weeks and some once a year.

How can I return my order and get a refund?

Please note that all products in the store are shipped from an external source, therefore there are NO REFUNDS. All physical products are final sale and will be sent from the product warehouses.

What can I do if I am loosing so much hair/noticed thinning?

I get a lot of you who come to me to help you with this problem. Unfortunately, I am not a doctor, trichologist or dermatologist nor do I have any advice to give on regrowing hair. I refer everyone to either book an appointment with their physician to rule out any underlying cause or to a dermatologist/trichologist who can actually identify a possible problem and solution to your hair loss. Just know that you are not alone in this. With age comes the thinning or discoloration of hair as well as hormonal changes and so many other environmental factors. Please consult with a medical professional. I refer most of you to my friends at NHLMA to have a consult after ruling out any medical issues.

How can I protect my hair at night?

Sleeping will mess your hair up of course, so figuring out a way to preserve your curls at night will help prolong the days. I like to use a buff/neck gaiter (this works great for hair or tighter curls that take up space). Some people like to use a pineapple or use a silk scarf. If you can, sleep without anything but be consciously aware in your sleep and always lift your hair up and away onto your pillow as you move during the night. A silk pillowcase/bed sheet may help reduce frizz.

What is a Curly cut?

So the Curly Cut I provide is a custom cut to you and your hair pattern. I am Rëzo and Cut It Kinky certified, which are different curly cutting techniques. I put together a bunch of concepts I’ve learned, and I cut the hair wet or dry depending on your curl pattern. Everything depends on your goals and desired shape (circle, triangle, square and more)! If you want the most volume/dramatic effect I will use more Rëzo style techniques. If you like what you have or just want to clean it up, then I will just shape the hair how you like or however I think would best suit you and your life style. Either way, I can achieve whatever goal you hair can support and we can decide together on which type of cut would best for your goal.

I know someone who needs to make an appointment with you for their curly hair needs!!

Thank you so much for keeping me in mind for your friends/family! I would like for you to refer them to this website so they can get ALLLL the details they need before they book. They will also have access to my contact information if they have any questions or concerns regarding their hair or their appointment. I really appreciate you spreading the word about what I can do to help more curlies!

What is the difference between a normal haircut and a curly cut?

It’s a haircut, but a curly stylist is more aware of what you want/need and knows how to apply hair cutting basics to both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional hair! Meaning they consider shrinkage, curl pattern, density, multiple patterns in multiple areas and to make sure they get cut to lay cohesively together. They are also knowledgeable on styling the hair to look good after the cut and proceed with any finishing touches.

How should I prep my hair for my appointment?

NO: braids, ponytails, buns, etc. or anything that changes your hair's natural curl pattern. If I can’t see your natural curl pattern, you will not get a proper cut. You will have the option to either reschedule or continue the appointment knowing the consequences.

NO: dreads, matted hair or big tangles. Make sure that your hair is completely detangled in order for me to work with your hair. Tangles will not allow for a proper cut. You will have the option to either reschedule or continue the appointment knowing the consequences.

YES: you can cleanse, condition and style your hair curly (with product or without) for your appointment. Hair must be as dry as possible before the appointment. If you aren’t sure about how you can come in or it’s your first time getting a curly cut ever: Shampoo & Condition as usual. Detangle your hair with conditioner in it, rinse or leave conditioner in and air dry your hair. Your hair will be poofy but this is a great foundation for me to see your hair and get a haircut on!

YES: understand that every texture/shape/person is different and if you want to bring an inspiration picture, make sure the photos look similar to your hair density, curl pattern, and head size/shape! I can only enhance what you have, I cannot change the hair unless it is a chemical service (which I do not provide). This is important because some of you bring in photos of someone with completely different density/curl pattern and your hair will not look like that at the end of the appointment!!

What if I change my mind after the consultation part of the appointment?

There may be a moment of uncertainty after a the consultation part of your appointment or maybe you just wanted a consultation, please know that it is totally okay to say you want to wait until next time or maybe never get your hair cut by me!! I’m an open book so I may tell you the truth about what type of cut you want and whether or not that suits your lifestyle or hair texture! This is where the difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut may happen. Please feel free to be honest with me (I will also ask you if the consultation was okay and then proceed with the service!) and say you are not comfortable or maybe change your mind about the style/cut. The hourly rate will still apply, but of course the consultation part takes usually between 10-20minutes depending on each person.

Do you offer bridal/event services?

No. I want to express that I do not do bridal or event services. This is not my field of choice to work with and I am not available outside of the salon. I may have a reference for you, you can message me at info@curlyhairbyeden.com to refer you to someone I know!

I have straight hair/wear my hair straight often, can I book a haircut with you?

YES! You can book an appointment and during our consultation we will discuss how you wear your hair and what would be the best method for you. Please understand that the more shrinkage your hair has, the more discrepancy there will be between straight vs curly styles.

What is your availability?

I am booking out about 8weeks in advance depending on the season, so the faster you book the better. I do not have a waitlist or a cancelation list. If someone requests to be contacted if anything opens up I will message you (first come first serve). These openings are not guaranteed, it’s an online booking system so if someone grabs it before I can save it, it’s gone. You can keep an eye out for openings by clicking “reschedule” on your confirmation and viewing any openings.

How do I figure out my hair porosity?

Keep in mind, we don’t fit into a specific category. Think of your porosity as if it were on a scale. You could also be in between or closer to one side than the other. If your hair doesn’t get wet fast and stays not getting wet then you are low porosity. This would show as product just sitting on top of the hair, curls not defining well, most likely that you have virgin hair. If your hair gets wet fast and immediately weighs down dripping wet then you likely have a higher porosity. Usually I notice this on finer hair strands (not people who have less hair, but the actual strand is thinner) or those who swim, or chemically treat their hair. Chemically treated hair is color, bleach, box dye, perm, relaxer, chlorine, brazilian blow outs etc.

Any tips for extending the time between washes? My hair gets frizzy on day 2!

First, embrace the frizz! To have longer days in between washes, you should be using some kind of extreme holding product like a gel or mousse. If these products dry your hair out, balancing it with a cream or leave in should help reduce dryness. Another thing you could do is use slightly more product than you think you should. Experimenting with this is and your texture should help you decide if it’s something you like or if it solves your problem. Water is our best friend. Saturation in small sections for thorough application. Rake it, comb it, finger coil it. Whatever! These all achieve different looks so it up to you, but saturation is key. That day one hair needs to be well done in order to last the multiple days afterwards. Some people like to refresh their hair by spraying it wet and restyling, misting it with water only or steaming it (like stay in the bathroom with running hot water in the shower as a DIY method or buy a steamer).
